Ok, this is an easy one, yet many people fall for this scam. While Microsoft is listening to its’ users more than ever, they will never call you. If you get a call from any organization claiming to be Microsoft (or Hewlett Packard, Dell, Toshiba, etc.), it is a scam. Simply put, these companies do not operate this way. They do not call users; it is a scam and you should just hang up. It is a scam, period. Do not listen to them, do not believe them. They are just trying to get your money or worse, Hijack your computer.
In addition, if something pops up on your computer indicating to call a phone number, this is also a scam. It is not real; it is not Microsoft or any legitimate company. When this comes up on the screen, they do not make it easy to get out of the popup message. Either launch task manager and end your web browser (such as Edge, Chrome or Internet Explorer), or press and hold the power switch on your computer for 5+ seconds. This will perform a hard shutdown. Then tap the power button to turn your computer back on and you will be able to use your computer as normal.
